… Hunger for Rotten Stuff …

I am a big big big fan of second hand/rotten stuff. It was a heritage from my grandmother who always brought home ‘thousand’ of junk woman stuff in her gigantic luggage. Everytime she opened it, me and my other families just crawled try to grab everything as much as we can. She named it “Burjer” stands for “Buruk-buruk Jerman” (Bad German). I guess the term of “Burjer” founded because in my village, Balige, lot of second hand cloths came from German, from various brands. That’s why second hand stuff was so famous that time because of the quality so damn good.

As i grew up in the big city, second hand stuff became huge, named as a flea market. In Jakarta, flea market is in Pasar Senen and Pasar Baru, but actually there’s many area and places we could meet that sold a second hand stuff, but not as a massive as Pasar Senen and Pasar Baru. Hunting good and cheap stuff at flea market in Jakarta wasn’t such a pleasure for me, indeed the place are always crowded and burning inside. Moreover, the price wasn’t too cheap, since the seller already know the name of high-end brand.

The question is “Why i like second/rotten stuff?” Because i love vintage and classic thing. i have tons of second and vintage cloths at my drawer. To reduce it, once i sold via Facebook and i earned IDR 500.000. Not bad, right.

Old stuff is always everlasting, believe me. The price is based on taste and subjectivity. We cannot put a price tag through old stuff, it could be very expensive or otherwise. And also, looking and searching for vintage stuff is struggling. It’s a battle, at least with yourself. Sometimes when you really like an item but the price not meet your expectation, you let it go, but deep inside you know it’s wrong. But it was too late to come back.

You have to find the right store then you have to find the right item with the right price. Its not easy for sure. It would be easier if every item have a price tag so we don’t have to bargain anymore. But flea market is not only a market. It’s an ART !

In October i will be going to my neighbor country and i really exited hunting for flea market. I search for several websites and i found some interesting thing. There are thrilling places that i should visit during my vacation next month. I only listing the daily open flea market, because some of the market only open once per one month or until three month. Since i’ll be staying only for 4 days 3 nights, i keep the daily flea market only.
